About three years into our marriage, we decided to start trying to have kids. But we were having difficulty. With infertility comes a level of shame and a tendency to isolate. Because of the intimacy of marriage, it feels like something to keep private.

There was nothing that said we couldn't have kids, and that resulted in a lot of frustration and hurt towards God. It's hard not to be bitter when you see someone get pregnant who has no desire to be a parent. After years of struggling like this, we found Waiting in Hope. One in eight couples face infertility, and one in four experience loss. We knew that. But when you finally put faces to numbers, It's different. I remember being in that room and saying, "Oh, we're not alone." 

It took a lot of God working on our hearts. It took a lot of people pouring into us. It took looking at scripture and asking, "Where is our hope truly found?" Children, finances, a house… none of that is promised, and none of that is eternal. And if you receive those things, it isn't the end of the story. If you come to that road and you are far from God, and your marriage is broken. What's the point then? But the hope we have in Christ endures; it does not put us to shame.

Through our experience, God shifted our perspective so much. We've realized we are not alone, and we never were. Now, we want people to know the same. Even if not, God is still good. You can be going through a terrible and frustrating season, and God is faithful to love you through your hurt. Draw hope from Him.
